Philosophy

What is the philosophy of Should I Travel To … ?

Most travel websites try to answer one question:

“Is this destination worth visiting?”

We think there’s a better question:

“Is this destination right for you, right now?

The truth is, almost every great travel destination has something that makes it special.

Maybe it’s a famous skyline or a historic battlefield.

Maybe it’s a world-famous museum, an incredible beach, a neighborhood unlike any other, or simply a view that can’t be found anywhere else.

In fact, we believe that most travelers should experience many of America’s great cities at least once.

But every destination also comes with tradeoffs.

New York City is crowded.

Chicago gets cold.

Orlando revolves around theme parks.

Los Angeles is spread out.

Boston isn’t cheap.

Those aren’t flaws. They’re simply part of the experience.

The Should I Travel To .. City Rating Framework

Our goal isn’t to tell you where not to go.

Our goal is to help you understand what you’re signing up for before you book the trip.

That’s why every destination on this site is evaluated using the same consistent rubric:

  • Cost & Value
  • Weather
  • Crowds
  • Walkability & Transportation
  • Things To Do
  • Food & Dining
  • Tourist Comfort & Safety
  • Culture & Character
  • Cleanliness & Infrastructure
  • Uniqueness

The scores aren’t meant to crown a winner.

They’re meant to help you compare destinations fairly.

Because the “best” destination isn’t always the one with the highest rating.

Sometimes the crowded city is exactly what you’re looking for.

Other times, the expensive trip is worth every dollar.

Sometimes the place everyone tells you to skip becomes your favorite vacation.

Travel isn’t about finding the perfect destination.

It’s about finding the destination that’s perfect for you.

So we don’t tell you where to go.

We simply give you the pros, the cons, and the context.

3 Pros. 3 Cons. You Decide.
